All About Health and Wellness Coaching
What is Health and Wellness Coaching?
Health and Wellness Coaching is a collaborative partnership between a trained coach and a client who is seeking to improve their overall health and wellbeing. Health and Wellness coaching is especially helpful in supporting people to create new healthy habits that can be built into their lifestyle for short and long-term benefit.
How does Health and Wellness Coaching differ from Personal Training?
Personal training focuses on physical fitness, exercise programming and performance goals, with the personal trainer assuming the role of the expert in teaching and programming exercises.
Health and Wellness Coaching takes a holistic approach, addressing various aspects of health and wellbeing and their impact on the individual client. Coaches help clients to create new lifestyle behaviours based on their individual needs, this may include exercise, nutrition, movement and stress management. Coaching regards the client as the expert in their own life and encourages self-reflection, exploration and empowerment to create and sustain healthy lifestyle behaviours.
What is the difference between Healthy in the Middle and other Health and Wellness Coaches?
Some Health and Wellness coaches have not received specialist Health Coaching training. Training and accreditation by a specialist health coaching organisation assures the credentials of the coach. I have completed Health and Wellness Coaching training with Wellness Coaching Australia, a leader in the field. Additionally, as a Registered Nurse with specialist qualifications (About Me), I draw on my unique knowledge and extensive nursing expertise to support my clients.
Do you only Coach women through Cancer and Menopause?
As a trained Health and Wellness Coach I can work with anyone who is committed to improving their health and wellness. I am deeply passionate about supporting women who really want to improve their health and wellness, regardless of their specific circumstances or health goals.
My specialist areas of expertise are supporting women over 40, menopause and wellness after cancer and naturally these women come to me for support due to my expertise in this area, however ALL women are welcome.
If you are a health professional wanting to refer a male after cancer treatment, please contact me and I will offer support if able.
How does 1:1 Coaching Work?
1:1 coaching starts with an initial chat (Connection Call) for you to talk about what you are looking for and for us to explore how I may be able to help you. If we both feel we are a good fit for each other, then you will complete an initial assessment (this will depend on the program). We will then work together to create a health and wellness vision and from there we will develop some specific goals and actions. We will have regular coaching sessions (typically weekly or fortnightly) to provide ongoing support, accountability and adjustments to the goals and actions as needed.
How does Group Coaching Work?
Group Coaching programs are hybrid programs combining information, support and 1:1 coaching sessions, depending on the program. Group Coaching programs run over a specific period for a group of clients (e.g.: 4-week Essentials of Midlife Health and Wellness, 12-week Pathway to Wellness After Cancer)
How long does the client work with the Coach?
The duration of coaching depends on your needs and goals, it can be short term to address one area of concern, or long-term to provide sustainable and ongoing support with a chronic disease or ongoing goals. The coaching relationship is dynamic and adaptable depending on your wishes, it may be a once-only single session for a ‘health assessment’ or ‘initial menopause support’, ongoing for months or ad-hoc over several years.
Is Coaching provided remotely or face-to-face?
Coaching is delivered remotely via video calls and can be provided globally to clients who have access to video conferencing (e.g., Zoom).
Face to face coaching is only provided when Healthy in the Middle is sub-contracted by a third-party to deliver coaching in a specific location (e.g., Menopause Coaching in a GP Clinic).
